AI Professional Development Plan 2024-2025

Alongside guidance and policies that address the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Sunnyside School District, we will prioritize professional development for all staff and bring together individual educators' experiences with AI to document successes, identify gaps, build collective organizational knowledge and capacity, and commit to continued meaningful professional learning experiences that support teaching and learning. How does our system support staff and students in understanding how to use AI and how AI works? How is system-wide participation in AI education and professional development being encouraged and measured?

  1. Foundational Understanding Training for all staff (required) 
  • August 2024, 2-hour training 

2. AI Workshops w/ Instructional Tech Coaches (recommended) 

  • Embedded throughout the school year (after school, LevelEd Up?)
  • Introduction to AI / Use AI to Save Time & Energy
  • Use AI to Differentiate Instruction / UDL and AI 
  • Use AI to Enhance Innovative Classroom Practices
  • Assessment and AI
  • Using AI with Students / Teach Students the Power of AI
  1. Coaching Cycles and SAMR Unit Redesign w/ Instructional Tech Coaches (optional) 
  • Fall, Winter, and Spring Cohorts

Goals: 

  • ALL staff have a foundational understanding of AI (basics of AI and its relevance to the world of education)
  • All staff will level up during the 2024-2025 school year

Level 1

Foundational Understanding:

Understand the basics of AI and its relevance to the world of education, including ethical and responsible use; Introduction to using AI for lesson planning and design.
Level 2

Applied Learning:

Use AI for lesson planning and design.
Level 3

Creative Integration:

Thoughtfully and intentionally integrate AI to differentiate and personalize learning in an inclusionary model.
Level 4

Transformative Practice:

Redefine lessons by facilitating AI-infused learning experiences that find and solve real-world problems, and that open doors to new opportunities that weren’t previously possible.
