Avoid Food Near Your Laptop
Crumbs can get into the keyboard and cause damage. It's best to keep food away from your work area.
Maintain a Clean, Dust-Free Environment
Try to keep your work area clean and relatively free of dust to prevent any build-up in your laptop's components.
Clean Your Screen Properly
Use a microfiber cloth or a soft facial tissue with a mild glass cleaner to clean your screen. Always spray the cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto the laptop.
Tech Tip
Your screen can be cleaned with a facial tissue or microfiber cloth and mild glass cleaner (please don't spray cleaners directly onto your laptop)
Your keyboard can be kept clean by wiping it down with a microfiber or other soft cloth.
Keep Your Keyboard Clean
Wipe down the keyboard with a microfiber cloth or another soft cloth to keep it free of dust and debris.
Protect the Laptop Display
Before closing your laptop, ensure there is nothing on the keyboard to avoid damaging the screen.
Be Careful with Cables
Avoid rolling your chair over power or network cables to prevent damage.
Use Accessory Ports Correctly
Always plug accessory devices into their designated slots to avoid damage to the ports.
Handle Temperature Changes with Care
Do not expose your laptop to rapid temperature changes. For example, if it’s been in a cold car overnight, let it reach room temperature before turning it on.
Update Regularly
Updates will be deployed via Self-Service. Ensure you update your laptop or desktop promptly to keep it operating at full capacity.
Save Your Work on Google Drive
Save all your work on Google Drive via the Chrome browser to ensure your data is backed up. To move existing files to Google Drive:
- Go to drive.google.com on your computer.
- Open or create a folder.
- Drag and drop your files into the Google Drive folder.
Use Magic Computer Fix for Slow Performance
If your machine is running slow, use Magic Computer Fix available in Self-Service. This will reboot your machine, so save your work beforehand.
Keep the Trash Bin Empty
Regularly empty the trash bin to free up disk space.
